Quick summary: October 2026 brings a long holiday weekend, five full weekends and plenty of dates to celebrate at the table: World Food Day, International Chefs Day, Halloween and the run-up to Day of the Dead. Here’s the month at a glance, plus the plans you can build at Restaurante Fusión Los 3 Soles in Chía.

October has a reputation as an in-between month. The second half of the year is well underway, December still feels far off, and it rains more than anyone would like. But take a closer look at the 2026 calendar and it’s actually packed: a long weekend right at the start, several dates that are best celebrated over a meal, and Halloween on a Saturday to close things out.

At Restaurante Fusión Los 3 Soles, on the Vía Cerca de Piedra off the Chía-Cota road, just north of Bogotá, we put together this guide so you can plan the month ahead. First the calendar, then the plans date by date, and finally ideas for any weekend you’re free.

October plans at Los 3 Soles, date by date

The October 12 long weekend: three days, three plans

October 12 falls on a Monday this year, so the long weekend runs from Saturday the 10th through Monday the 12th. It’s the month’s best chance to get out of Bogotá without going far. Saturday is made for a long lunch with live music, Sunday for brunch in the countryside and the Monday holiday for an early lunch before heading home. If you’re visiting from the US, that Monday also happens to be Columbus Day, or Indigenous Peoples’ Day, back home.

Since 2021, the holiday’s official name in Colombia has been the Day of the Ethnic and Cultural Diversity of the Colombian Nation, which fits perfectly with a kitchen that blends three countries.

October 16: World Food Day

Friday the 16th is World Food Day, which marks the founding of the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in 1945. The 2026 theme is “Innovate today. Nourish tomorrow.” It’s a great excuse to try dishes built on native ingredients, like the ceviche in lulo tiger’s milk (lulo is a tart, citrusy Colombian fruit), the fish with copoazú butter (copoazú is an Amazonian cousin of cacao) or the tataki in camu camu ponzu.

October 20: International Chefs Day

Tuesday the 20th is International Chefs Day. We’re closed that day, so consider this an invitation for later in the week: Thursday through Sunday, come taste the work of Anthony Mora, our executive chef, Luis Miguel Méndez, our head chef, and Karen Cruz, our head bartender.

October 31: Halloween on a Saturday

Halloween falls on a Saturday, which means you can celebrate twice. By day, with the kids in costume, the kids’ menu and the green lawns. By night, with friends or a date, two-for-one signature cocktails and live music.

Closing out the month: Day of the Dead arrives

Right after Halloween comes Day of the Dead, Mexico’s tradition for remembering loved ones who have passed. In 2026 it’s celebrated on Sunday, November 1, and Monday, November 2, a holiday in Colombia. Since one of our three kitchens is Mexican, it’s a great time to order birria tacos, sopa de totopos (a Mexican-style tortilla soup) or a cantarito, a tequila and citrus cocktail from Jalisco.

Plans for any October visit

Not everything has to revolve around a special date. October has five weekends and five Thursdays, and any of them work for these plans:

  • A long lunch at a countryside restaurant with green lawns, where kids have room to play.
  • An afternoon of games with your group: bolirana (a Colombian ring-toss game), darts and board games.
  • A private kiosk to celebrate a birthday or a small get-together.
  • Live music on weekends to go with your meal.
  • A different kind of workday on a Thursday or Friday at our countryside coworking space, surrounded by nature.

Tips for enjoying Chía in October

  1. Pack a jacket and a rain shell. October is rainy season on the Bogotá savanna, and afternoons cool off quickly, with evenings often in the 40s and 50s Fahrenheit.
  2. Book early for the October 12 long weekend and for Saturday the 31st, which tend to be the busiest days of the month.
  3. Remember that Los 3 Soles is open Thursday through Sunday and on holidays. We’re closed Monday through Wednesday, except on holidays.
  4. If you’re drinking, pick a designated driver. The menu has alcohol-free options like the Yara Icá-í açaí mocktail or pits, Peru’s purple corn drink.
  5. If you’re bringing a pet, it’s welcome in our outdoor areas.

If you only have one visit this month, this lineup covers all of October’s highlights:

  • Birria tacos: four corn tortilla tacos with slow-cooked beef and consommé for dipping. Perfect for Taco Thursday and for the run-up to Day of the Dead.
  • Ceviche in lulo tiger’s milk: your choice of tilapia, shrimp or mixed, with red onion, sweet pepper, avocado, sweet potato purée and toasted corn.
  • Ajiaco: Bogotá’s signature chicken soup with papa criolla (a small, buttery golden Andean potato), corn on the cob, guascas (an earthy Andean herb) and capers, served with avocado and white rice. Just right for a chilly October afternoon.
  • Sol de medianoche (two-for-one): vodka, white wine, pineapple, rosemary and peperoncino, for Halloween night.
